Duties Description Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Chair of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, the Special Assistant is responsible for assisting the Chair with administrative and operational duties, acting as liaison with the Governor’s Office and Program Managers, and advising the Chair on issues of policy and program implementation. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assist the Chair with Governor’s Office and Executive staff by attending meetings, trainings, handling and preparing executive correspondence, and providing direction and/or information on behalf of the Chair as directed.

• Assist the Chair with managing the administrative duties pertaining to the Office for the Advocate for Injured Workers, the Office of the Advocate for Business, and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Steering Committee and DEI Council, including scheduling meetings, assisting with program and staff evaluations, or reports for internal and external parties, the Executive Chamber or other State agencies.

• Perform special assignments, including organizing and attending meetings with the Chair and facilitating communication with internal and external stakeholders, assisting the Chair with executing the agency’s strategic plan, agency priorities and communications.

• Provide materials for the Chair and Executive Director’s, joint speaking engagements by gathering relevant subject materials, including presentations and other related information as needed.

• In coordination with the PIO office, prepare and review speeches, presentations and other documents; research and book high-value speaking opportunities and other events for the Chair.

• Attend and document statewide events with the Chair, noting and assisting with follow-up actions and correspondence, assisting with the Chair’s social media accounts.

• Travel required - 20%

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
• 3-8 years of professional experience in a communications, public relations, or government position.

• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.?

• Highly organized, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

• Strong understanding of New York State government processes and people, and prior experience interacting with elected officials and senior leaders.

• Possess advanced skills in Microsoft Office and social media and be comfortable with other technology.

• Possess advanced problem-solving skills and be able to offer ideas/solutions within the context of the agency’s mission and core values.

• Ability to travel throughout the state and accompany the Chair to events and meetings.

Additional Comments Please note: This is an appointment to a position in the exempt jurisdictional class. As such, the incumbent of this position will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
